Junior Marisa Young (Fountain Valley, Calif./Fountain Valley HS) sparked Cal State Northridge to a conference-opening victory, and captured Big West Women's Water Polo Player of the Week honors.

A team-high four goals from the center keyed a 10-7 comeback victory against UC Davis in Sunday's Big West opener.  The Aggies led 4-3 after the first period, but the Matadors outscored them 3-0 in the second stanza for a 6-4 halftime advantage.  Young scored two of those goals to give CSUN the momentum.  She added an insurance goal with 6:59 to play to provide CSUN with a 9-6 lead.

Young chipped in three assists, three steals and a field block in the win over the No. 15-ranked Aggies.

In Saturday's battle with No. 4 California, Young contributed two goals and three field blocks in a 15-10 loss.

Young was 6-for-11 in shooting for a .545 percentage.

Others nominated: Allyson Hansen (UC Davis); Jillian Yocum (UC Irvine)
