Long Beach State senior Rochelle Chan (Torrance, Calif./Torrance HS), who recorded her best tournament finish of the year, received recognition as the Big West Women's Golfer of the Month for April.
Chan finished in a tie for second at The Gold Rush presented by Farmers Insurance and led the 49ers to a runner-up finish among the 11 participating schools. She fired a season-low 70 in the final round and helped the 49ers trim nine shots off a 13-stroke deficit. Chan had three birdies, 14 pars and one bogey to help LBSU post the lowest tournament round (292) of any school.
She shot a 54-hole total of 1-over 217 (74-73-70), using her furious finish to come up just two strokes short of individual medalist Alice Kim of Gonzaga. Chan trailed the individual leader by seven strokes entering the final round of the 60-golfer field.
Others nominated: Tisha Alyn Abrea (Cal State Fullerton); Betty Chen (UC Davis); Savannah Vilaubi (UC Riverside)
