Cal State Northridge freshman Vivian Lin (Hong Kong/Laurel Springs HS) cemented a solid collegiate debut with an unblemished singles and doubles effort to earn Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week.
Lin performed outstandingly at the top of the lineup to help the Matadors forge team victories at home against Westmont (7-0) and Air Force (4-3).
In the season opener against Westmont, Lin cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Grace Davis at the No. 2 position, and teamed with Criss Rodriguez to down the Warrior duo of Davis and Emily Keach, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles.
Lin stepped up her game against her Eagle counterparts in a hard fought victory that went down to the wire. She helped the Matadors capture the doubles point, again partnering with Rodriguez in an 8-5 decision versus Natasha Rizvi and Marcelli Magday. With the match tied at 3-3 against Air Force, Lin succeeded in the clutch. She rallied for the decisive point at No. 1 singles against Tiffany Tran, overcoming a first set deficit to win 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2)
