Senior Amber Pezzolla starred for San Diego State in a showdown for first place bragging rights, earning her Big West Women's Water Polo Player of the Week honors.
Pezzolla scored a game-high five goals (on six shot attempts) and added two assists to help the Aztecs to a key 10-7 Big West road victory against No. 8 Hawai’i. The Aztecs moved ahead of the Rainbow Wahine by one-half game in the Big West standings as they improved to 4-1 in league play.
In defeating UH, the Aztecs secured their season-high ninth straight win as Pezzolla's involvement in seven of her team's goals matched the entire UH output for the match. Pezzolla also had two steals and drew an exclusion for the visitor's.
The sixth-ranked Aztecs played two additional matches in Hawai’i and managed a 1-1 split. Pezzolla shared game-high honors with two goals, adding an assist in a 9-5 triumph over No. 15 UC San Diego. She was held out of the scoring column in a 20-3 defeat to No. 2 Stanford.
For the week, Pezzolla recorded seven goals, three assists, three steals and two ejections drawn.
