Long Beach State senior Simone Hoey (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga HS) captured her second career tournament victory to garner the Big West Women's Golfer of the Month award for April.
The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. native shot 5 below par to win individual medalist honors by four strokes at the Fresno State Lexus Classic earlier this week. Hoey carded 72-69-70 for a 54-hole total of 211, making her one of only two players to shoot under par. Her second round 69 equalled her career-low.
Hoey's performance also helped the 49ers claim their second team tournament title of the season.
Hoey also was the top player in the inaugural Black and Blue Rivalry Match against UC Irvine at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine. She finished first among 14 players with a 1-over par 72, leading LBSU to a five shot victory over the Anteaters.
Others nominated: Demi Runas (UC Davis); Luciane Lee (UC Irvine)
