Outstanding performances from UC Santa Barbara freshman Samantha Murphy and Hawai’i senior Amarens Genee netted them Big West Women's Water Polo Co-Player of the Week recognition.alt

Murphy helped engineer an upset of previous co-conference leader No. 6 San Diego State with a hat trick in an 8-5 victory.  The utility player recorded one assist, one earned ejection and won all four of her sprints in addition to the three goals as the 16th-ranked Gauchos were victorious in the final home game of the season.  Murphy, who leads the team with 65 goals, ranks No. 2 on the school's single-season list with at least six games remaining on the schedule.

Genee erupted for a total of 16 goals over four contests to help Hawai’i post a 4-0 mark for the week.  Two of those wins came on the road in key conference affairs against UC Davis and Pacific, resulting in catapulting the Rainbow Wahine to first place in the Big West with a 5-1 record.

The center led the team with five goals in a closely contested 14-12 final against the Aggies.  One day later, Genee scored two more times as UH squeezed past Pacific, 12-11.

UH's road trip continued with a pair of matches at The Bronco, a tournament hosted by Santa Clara.  Genee notched a career-high seven goals in the finale to lead UH in an 18-7 win over Colorado State.  The seven goals also tied her for third in program history for most goals in a match.  Genee added two goals in a 16-5 win versus Cal State East Bay.

For the week, Genee averaged 4.0 goals per game.alt

Others nominated:  Taylor Adair (Pacific)
