Eggens Dominates On Big West Roadtrip

altSenior Monika Eggens (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia/Pitt Meadows Secondary) powered Hawai’i to a 2-0 conference start to garner the Big West Women's Water Polo Player of the Week award.

The attacker helped UH open Big West play with two impressive road wins against No. 6 UC Irvine and No. 9 Long Beach State.

She tallied three goals in the 12-11 overtime win against the Anteaters for UH's first-ever Big West victory.  Eggens also netted six goals in a 12-7 triumph over the 49ers to move the Rainbow Wahine to 2-0 in league play.

UH stayed in California for two extra days to participate in the Aztec Invitational.  Eggens scored 10 goals in three matches to lead the UH offense.  After being limited to one goal in an 8-6 loss to No. 11 Indiana, Eggens exploded for her second six-goal game of the week as she victimized Bucknell in a 10-4 victory.

Eggens closed out the week with her fourth hat trick, scoring three goals in a 12-3 rout of No. 12 Princeton and wrapping up the Rainbow Wahine's third win over a ranked opponent.

The 19 goals in five matches upped Eggens' season total to 52 goals in 17 contests, an average of more than three goals per game.
