Senior Mark Anguiano and junior Tisha Alyn Abrea combined for four top-10 finishes to lead Cal State Fullerton in tournament action, collecting Big West Men's and Women's Golfer of the Month honors for September.

Anguiano Impressive To Open Fall Season

Cal State Fullerton senior Mark Anguiano (Whittier, Calif./La Serna HS) missed individual medalist honors by one stroke in back-to-back tournaments, but still posted a pair of top-three finishes to claim Big West Men's Golfer of the Month honors for September.

Anguiano tied for third in a field of 81 golfers at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate in Pullman, Wash.  He shot a 6-under 204 for the tournament in leading the Titans to a second place finish out of 12 teams.  CSF finished one stroke back of host Washington State.  Anguiano got progressively better throughout the tournament, carding rounds of 70, 69 and 65.  The final round 65 represented the best individual round by a Titan since John San Juan shot a 65 at the Del Walker Invitational on Oct. 22, 2009.

In his next outing, at the Dash Thomas Memorial in Boise, Idaho, Anguiano utilized another torrid finish to the tournament to secure his second runner-up showing.  Shooting a final round 66, Anguiano helped the Titans storm up the leader board and move from a tie to seventh after 36 holes to a tie for third at tournament's end.  The 66 tied for the third-lowest round by a Titan since the program was reinstated in 2009-10.  After carding consecutive rounds of 70 for the opening 36 holes, Anguiano finished with a 7-under 206, which marks the second-lowest individual score since 2009-10.

Anguiano has recorded six straight rounds at par or better to start the season.

Others nominated:  Jordan Wright (Cal Poly); Matt Hansen (UC Davis); Leven Simon Seay (UC Riverside)
