For the second straight week Cal Poly's David Armendariz claims Big West Player of the Week honors, while Cal State Fullerton's Dylan Floro earns the Big West Pitcher of the Week award.
Armendariz collected his second consecutive player of the week honors after leading Cal Poly to a sweep over UC Riverside to close out the regular season. The Sherman Oaks, Calif., native went 8-for-13 with eight RBI versus the Highlanders. He contributed three doubles, all in Saturday's 15-9 win, produced the game-winning RBI and run on Sunday with a leadoff home run in the second inning and scored five times in the series. In his last seven games of the regular season, Armendariz was 14-for-23 with eight runs scored and 15 RBI, raising his batting average 38 points to .312.
Floro threw his third complete game of the season and his first complete-game shutout last week. The Merced, Calif., native scattered six hits, just three throughout the first six innings, en route to his 10th victory of the season to tie him for first in the league. He worked out of a two-out bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning by fanning his fifth and final strikeout victim. Floro won his fourth consecutive Big West start on Friday, moving him to 8-1 in league action. He lowered his ERA to 2.52, the fourth-best mark in the conference. His victory on Friday assisted in the Titans clinching the 2012 Big West Championship.
