The Big West Women’s Golf Athlete of the Month recognition concludes with Demi Runas, of UC Davis taking honors for her outstanding performance in her third season as an Aggie. This is Runas’ second recognition, as she opened the season in September as the first Big West Women’s Golf Player of the Month of 2011-12.
The Torrance, Calif. native leads the league with a 73.4 average, collecting a total five top-10 finishes in her nine course competitions thus far on the season. She is ranked nationally among the top 50 by Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings while the Aggies team is also ranked.
In her two tournament competitions over the last month, Runas shared medalists honors at the PING/ASU Invitational after finishing with a 1-under total, posting her best second round score of 3-under 68. She was the Aggies second-best finisher at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate with a 1-over par 217 total, while her opening round score of 71 was the best on the team for that round. In the two course completions, Runas had a 71.5 stroke average.
Runas will continue this week to finish the 2011-12 season with the Aggies at the Big West Women’s Golf Championships in San Luis Obispo, Calif, where they look to clinch their three-consecutive tournament title.
