UC Irvine sophomore Danielle Warde earned Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week accolades after helping her team to a 4-0 conference record and a share of the regular season title with outstanding play on both the offensive and defensive ends.

Warde scored five goals on seven shots in two matches as the Anteaters dispatched UC Davis (10-4) and Pacific (14-2) at home last week.  She scored four of those goals against the Tigers.

In addition to her offensive contributions, Warde influenced the UCI defensive scheme significantly.  She had four steals against UCD and five more against Pacific to increase her season total to 60, 11 more than any one player had in 2011.  Warde also tallied a field block against the Aggies.

Warde’s all-around production also included filling in on all UCI sprints, in which she won all eight as the team improved to 21-5 on the season.

Others nominated:  Jessica Dunn (UC Davis); Shelby Haroldson (UC Santa Barbara)
