Sophomore Elise Martin starred for Pacific in a couple of near upset wins against ranked opponents, earning her Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week honors.
The utility player contributed in several ways as the Tigers came up just short in losses to No. 13 Maryland (10-8) and No. 11 UC Davis (11-9) at the Pacific Invitational last weekend.
Against scoring a pair of goals against the Terrapins in the tournament opener, Martin returned against the rival Aggies and produced a hat trick to go along with three assists, three steals and three drawn ejections. Two of those goals occurred in the crucial fourth quarter when the Tigers attempted to mount a comeback.
For the season, Martin leads Pacific with 42 goals, 22 assists, 37 steals and 10 field blocks.
Others nominated: Jenny Jamison (Cal State Northridge); Carmen Eggert (UC Davis)
