For the second straight week UC Irvine's Matt Summers claims Big West Pitcher of the Week honors, while UC Santa Barbara's Trevor Whyte received the Big West Player of the Week award.
In the final weekend of the season, Whyte hit three home runs and drove in eight runs during UC Santa Barbaras two victories over Pacific. Whyte broke open a 1-1 game on Friday with a two-run home run, as part of his career-high five RBI game. He added a two-run single and a sac fly later in the contest. On Saturday he went 2-3 with two home runs and three RBI, hitting the first of his homers in the second inning in a 5-0 victory. Whyte then added a prodigious shot later in the game, a two-run blast. He became the first Gaucho to homer in consecutive at-bats since 2009.
Summers recorded the fourth no-hitter in UC Irvine history to lead the Anteaters to a 2-0 win in the series opener against Long Beach State. The right-hander faced the minimum through 8.2 innings before hitting a batter. Summers left that runner stranded and went on to accomplish the no-hit feat with five strikeouts. Summers recorded his second consecutive complete-game shutout and extended his scoreless streak to 19 innings. With the win he improves to 10-2 on the season is undefeated at 8-0 in Big West games. Summers lowered his ERA to 1.74 on the year.
