Seniors Cortney Collyer (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) of UC Irvine and Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawai'i/Iolani HS) of Pacific earned Big West Women's Water Polo Co-Player of the Week honors after sparking their teams to conference victories.
Collyer's efforts were instrumental to UCI victories against No. 14 Cal State Northridge (9-8) and No. 16 UC Santa Barbara (11-5), helping the Anteaters clinch the regular season conference title and lock up the No. 1 seed for the Big West Tournament.
She had a goal and three steals in the narrow victory over the Matadors. Collyer then posted a hat trick against UCSB, adding a pair of steals as well.
The four goals lifted Collyer's career total to 121, which ranks her seventh all-time in UCI history. Collyer also limited each team's leading scorer, holding CSUN's Whitney Delgado and UCSB's Kathryn Nelson to just one goal in both matches.
Tawarahara was unaffected by four days of missed practice time as she netted four goals in Pacific's 6-5 win at UC Davis. The effort upped Tawarahara's career goals total to 227, placing her No. 2 on the school's all-time list.
The missed practice time was attributed to Tawarahara's travels to Washington D.C. for Posters on the Hill 2011, where she presented the Tiger P.R.I.D.E research project to members of Congress in hopes of receiving a federal grant to sustain the program for five years in the Stockton community.
