UC Irvine's Jessy Cardey (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly HS) and UC Santa Barbara's Christie Clark (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) led their teams in scoring and to 3-1 records at the Triton Invitational, sharing Big West Women's Water Polo Player of the Week honors.
Cardey scored 10 goals over the four games, including eight of her strikes in winning efforts. She tallied a season-high four goals in UCI's 12-9 win over No. 14 Hartwick. The sophomore attacker provided another two goals in a narrow 10-8 loss to No. 9 San Diego State. She also collected a hat trick against Maryland and added another goal in an 8-7 victory over Big West foe Long Beach State that clinched fifth place in the tournament for the Anteaters.
She also notched four assists while drawing three exclusions and two penalties. Cardey now leads the team with 14 goals on the season.
Clark led her squad in scoring with eight goals as the Gauchos also finished the Triton Invitational 3-1. She posted a hat trick in UC Santa Barbara's 12-3 triumph over No. 20 Marist and added two goals in a 12-7 victory against No. 17 UC San Diego. Clark delivered another two goals in a win over Cal State East Bay, and she was one of just two Gauchos to score in a 5-2 loss to Long Beach State.
The senior utility currently ranks second on the Gauchos with 21 goals this season.
