UC Riverside's Amelia Ek tied for second at the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational earlier this month with a two-round score of 151, the highest finisher from the Big West Conference. Her performance was good enough to secure November's Big West Women's Golfer of the Month accolade.
Claiming UC Riverside's first monthly honor of the 2011-12 season, Ek fired 78 in the first round of the two-day event. In the second day of action, the Cypress, Calif., native shaved off five strokes from her previous score for a second-round total of 73, a season low. Her combined score of 151, one stroke off the lead, tied her for second place and led the Highlanders to a sixth-place team finish.
