This week's edition of the Big West men's soccer weekly awards have a familiar twist to them as two of the winners took home the honors last week, while a third was honored two weeks ago. UC Santa Barbara's David Opoku repeated as the Offensive Player of the Week, while his teammate Sam Hayden shared the Defensive Player of the Week honor with UC Irvine's Andrew Fontein.
Opoku Delivers Late for UCSB
David Opoku supplied late game heroics in front of a record crowd for UC Santa Barbara last week, netting him Big West Offensive Player of the Week accolades.
Opoku scored the game-winning goal in the Gauchos' 2-0 home win over UCLA, a game witnessed by a UCSB and Big West record 15,896 fans.
Opoku had just been subbed back into the game seconds before the corner kick which lead to his goal, the third score for the freshman in as many matches.

UCI's Fontein, UCSB's Hayden Share Big West Defensive Award
UC Irvine's Andrew Fontein and UC Santa Barbara's Sam Hayden shut the door on their opposition last weekend, resulting in Big West Defensive Player of the Week accolades for both goalkeepers.
Fontein helped the Anteaters win the Rebel Classic in his hometown of Las Vegas, Nev. He started the weekend with five saves in a 4-0 whitewash of Cal State Bakersfield, then recorded three more saves in a 4-0 ‘Eater win over host UNLV.
Fontein has allowed just two goals in eight matches this season, moved into a tie for ninth on the Big West career shutout list with 19 clean sheets and is seventh all-time with 27 wins.
Hayden delivered an impressive performance in UCSB’s 2-0 win over UCLA. In front of a record crowd of 15,896, Hayden matched his career-high with six saves on the way to his third consecutive shutout.
Hayden now ranks seventh in career shutouts in league history with 19 in just 31 career matches.
