UC Irvine earned a 4-0 victory over Cal Poly Sunday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden to capture the championship of the 2010 Big West Men's Tennis Tournament.  The Anteaters won their first title since 2005, and a conference program record 13th overall.

The Anteaters pounced on the Mustangs early, collecting the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.  The No. 1 team of Zac Tsai and Steven Henderson defeated Jordan Bridge and Alex Sonesson, 8-2.  The clinching match came at No. 3 when Sam Gould and Khunpol Issara topped Blake Wardman and Brian McPhee, 8-3.

In singles, the Anteaters were victorious at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 positions.  Shimpei Suzuki defeated Drew Jacobs 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 and Ryan Mayer followed with a 6-1, 7-5 triumph over Sebastion Bell at No. 6.

Henderson won a hard fought match against Sonesson at No. 4 to wrap up the match and give Trevor Kronemann his first championship as the UCI head coach.  Kronemann won four straight titles as a player for the Anteaters from 1987-90.

UCI improved to 17-11 on the year and earned the Big West's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship.  The selection show will be televised between 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4 on ESPNews.
