A pair of freshmen took home tennis athlete of the week honors as Cal Poly's Jordan Bridge won the men's award and Pacific's Christina Goehl earned the women's.
Bridge Helps Mustangs Secure Tournament No. 1 Seed
Jordan Bridge (Irvine, Calif.) helped Cal Poly topple two teams on the road to clinch the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, earning him Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
Bridge defeated opponents from UC Irvine and UC Riverside at the No. 1 singles position, and has now won four of his last five singles matches.
He captured a 6-1, 7-6 win against UCI’s Fabian Matthews as the Mustangs upended the No. 53 Anteaters, 5-2. Bridge returned the action the next day to defeat the Highlanders’ Quoc Doan 6-1, 6-4. Bridge also won a match at No. 2 singles against Denver’s David Simson as Cal Poly nearly upset the No. 30 Pioneers.
Bridge also went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles with partner Alexander Sonesson.

Goehl Defeats Two Conference Opponents At No. 2 Singles
Pacific’s
Christina Goehl (Karlsruhe, Germany/Markgrafengymnasium) won her second Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award this season after collecting two singles wins against conference opponents.
Although the Tigers lost a 4-3 marathon to Cal State Northridge, Goehl produced a point for her team when she defeated Brooke Doane in a long 7-6 (3), 7-6 (8) match. Goehl then took on Dahra Zamudio of UC Davis and won in an impressive comeback. After losing the first set 2-6, Goehl won the next two sets 7-5 and 1-0 (14) in a super-tiebreaker. She survived three match points in the tiebreak as part of the Tigers’ 6-1 victory. She also went 1-1 at No. 3 doubles with partner Olga Gumenyuk.
