For the second straight week, Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside are walking away with the Big West Conference baseball weekly honors. Titan Jared Clark earned Big West Player of the Week accolades while Highlander Ryan Platt grabbed the Big West Pitcher of the Week award. This is the first honor of the season for both athletes.
Clark drove home runs in each of the four Titan games against USC and conference foe UC Santa Barbara to total seven RBI last week. In the Titans, 3-1 week, he went 5-for-11 (.455), scored three runs and had multiple hits in back-to-back games versus USC (Wed.) and UCSB (Fri.). The Castaic, Calif., native blasted his eighth home run of the season Saturday against the Gauchos and also added a double to his credit. Over the four-game span, Clark drew three walks, was hit by a pitch and recorded a sacrifice fly and a sacrifice bunt.
Platt guided UC Riverside to a 2-1 victory at San Diego Tuesday afternoon, allowing just one run in 8.0 innings pitched for a 1.12 ERA. He struck out six and scattered four hits. The efforts of the Chatsworth, Calif., native extended the Highlanders' win streak to five. Platt is now 3-0 on the year with the opposition hitting .243 against him.
