Francis Larson collected his second Big West Player of the Week accolade of the season after guiding UC Irvine to a 4-1 week, while Adam Wilk nabbed his first Big West Pitcher of the Week honor after an impressive outing in Long Beach State's 1-0 victory Friday evening.

Larson (Yorba Linda, Calif.) batted .500 in five games, going 11-for-22, and belted three doubles and two home runs to lead UC Irvine to a 4-1 week and a No. 1 ranking in this week’s national polls. In the Anteaters win over Loyola Marymount, the junior catcher went 2-for-4 and drove in the eventual game-winning run with an RBI double. He opened the UC Riverside series with a 4-for-5 performance that included two doubles, one home run, four runs scored and 2 RBI. Saturday, Larson singled and scored as par of UCI’s six-run first and in the series finale, he was 3-for-4 with two RBI, drawing two walks, one of which were intentional. Defensively, Larson stifled the Highlander baserunners Sunday, blocking three pitches in the dirt and recording a pair of outs at second and one at third as UCR tried to advance.

Wilk pitched eight scoreless innings in Friday’s 1-0 win over Cal State Northridge. The Cypress, Calif., native struck out six batters on four hits en route to Long Beach State’s first shutout of the season. Wilk, who gave up one walk, retired batters 12 in-a-row after the fourth inning. The 49ers went on to win the series over the Matadors 2-1.
