UC SANTA BARBARA POSTS 4-0 WIN AGAINST UC RIVERSIDE
No. 4 UC Santa Barbara knocked off No. 5 UC Davis, 4-0, in a Big West Men's Tennis Championship First Round match on Friday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The Gauchos slipped past the Aggies in doubles with a pair of 8-6 victories at the No. 1 and 2 spots to claim the doubles point.
UCSB's Taylor Chavez Goggin got things going in singles as his 6-3, 6-0 win against UCR's Chris Aria gave the Gauchos a 2-0 advantage. Max Taylor made it 3-0 when he defeated Tyler Lee by a 6-4, 6-1 score.
The clinching point came from the No. 3 slot where Scott Hohenstein defeated Hunter Lee, 6-2, 6-3.
UC Santa Barbara improved its overall record to 9-12 on the season, while UC Davis ended its year at 3-16.

CAL POLY MOVES ON TO MEN'S TENNIS SEMIFINALS
No. 3 Cal Poly rolled to a 4-0 win against No. 6 UC Riverside in the first round of the 2009 Big West Men's Tennis Championship at Indian Wells Tennis Garden Friday. The Mustangs moved on to face No. 2 UC Irvine in Saturday's semifinals at 9:00 a.m.
The Mustangs came out on the favorable end of a battle for the all-important doubles point. Rob Foy and Darryn Young won their match 8-4 at No. 1. UC Riverside's No. 3 team of Austin Andres and Quoc Doan beat their counterparts 8-6. Cal Poly clinched the point at No. 2 when Andy Gerst and Alex Sonesson beat Mike Conroy and Raineir Matias, 8-5.
The bottom of the Cal Poly lineup came through as Young won at No. 6 and Blake Wardman at No. 5 to fashion a 3-0 lead in the match.
Cal Poly clinched the match when Drew Jacobs posted a 6-4, 6-2 win against Felix Macherez at the No. 1 spot.
Cal Poly moves to 11-9 on the season while UC Riverside concludes at 5-18.
