UC Irvine's Issara, UC Riverside's Oki Notch Tennis Weekly Awards

UC Irvine's Khunpol Issara and UC Riverside's Erynne Oki went undefeated in singles play to be selected Big West Men's and Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week.

Issara Helps UC Irvine Win Pair of Matches

UC Irvine sophomore Khunpol Issara (Bangkok, Thailand/Laurel Oaks HS) claimed the final Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week award after posting a 4-0 record in singles and doubles competition in Anteater victories against Loyola Marymount and UC Riverside.
   
Issara produced  a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 singles slot against Loyola Marymount's Borja Malet in the 6-1 triumph against the Lions.  In a match that clinched the Big West regular season co-championship for UC Irvine, Issara helped the cause with his 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles against UC Riverside foe John Park.
   
In doubles, Issara teamed with Sam Gould to win twice at the No. 1 position.  They defeated LMU's Nick Von Der Ahe and Ivan Lopez, 8-6, and toppled the Highlander tandem of Park and Felix Macherez by an 8-2 decision.
   
Issara has won four straight and five of the last six at No. 1 doubles with the only loss coming to a nationally ranked team from Fresno State.  He won three of his last four regular season matches in singles.

UC Riverside's Oki Lengthens Singles Winning Streak To Seven Straight

UC Riverside senior Erynne Oki (Valley Village, CA/Notre Dame HS) earned her second Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honor with a pair of wins against conference opponents, stretching her winning streak in singles to seven matches in a row.
   
Oki, the No. 1 player on the Highlander singles ladder, defeated Cal State Northridge's Evgeniya Vertesheva 6-3, 6-1 for one of the two UCR points on the day.  She contributed to a 5-2 victory against Cal State Fullerton with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 triumph against Leslie Bullock.  The doubles team of Oki and Roxanne Plata also picked up an 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles against the Titan duo of Shelly Injejikian and Cheyenne Inglis.
