Clutch Performances Against Ranked Opponents Earn Colon, Bargas Weekly Honors

Cal State Fullerton's Christian Colon and UC Riverside's Paul Bargas lifted their respective teams to wins over top 10 programs to pick up Easton Big West Player and Pitcher of the Week accolades. While this is the first honor of the season for both athletes, it marks the second straight week a Titan players has received the award. Junior Erik Komatsu locked in the first player of the week for the Titans on March 31.

Colon helped the Titans to a 3-1 week on the road that included a conference series win against then-ranked No. 5 UC Irvine. The Corona, Calif., native collected a hit in all four games to boast a team-leading .438 average. The freshman shortstop knocked a team-high seven hits, with two doubles and a triple, that drove in five. Colon also registered a .688 slugging percentage, while drawing two walks, laying down two sac bunts and getting hit by a pitch. In Sunday's 6-4 win, he recorded three hits, including the go-ahead single. Earlier in the series he singled and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning that gave the Titans a brief one-run lead. Unfortunately they were unable to secure the lead and fell to UC Irvine, 3-2, on Saturday evening.

Bargas picked up his first Highlander win over then-ranked No. 9 Long Beach State with a five-hit complete game effort to give UC Riverside a 7-1 victory on Sunday, securing its first conference series win of the year. The defending Big West Champions went 2-1 against the preseason favorite to improve to 3-3 in league play. The transfer from Arizona fanned six batters, tying a career-best, and walked three. Bargas, who hails from Riverside, Calif., ranks second on the team with 23 strikeouts in 35.0 innings pitched.
