Long Beach State's Jonathan Jones and Cal State Fullerton's Adam Jorgenson were named Easton Big West Player/Pitcher of the Week following outstanding performances during the week of March 17-23. This is the first honor of the season for both athletes.
Jones hit an impressive .583 (7-for-12) against San Diego State and nationally-ranked UCLA, guiding Long Beach State to a perfect 4-0 week. The Vacaville, Calif., scored six runs over the four-game span, including a three-run, one-RBI game at UCLA Friday evening. In Saturday’s doubleheader with the Bruins at Blair Field, Jones picked up three more runs and was also hit by a pitch twice. The freshman, who had two multi-game hits this week, has connected for a hit in each of his first seven starts of the season.
Jorgenson notched a pair of saves on back-to-back days to help the Titans to a sweep of UNLV Friday and Saturday. Jorgenson came in both days with no more than a two run lead and converted both saves without allowing a hit. Friday night, the right-hander came in with a 7-5 lead and pitched the final two frames striking out four of the seven batters he faced for his first save of the year. On Saturday afternoon, the Costa Mesa native inherited runners at first and second with one out in a 4-3 game and proceeded to close out the game with a pop-out and a strikeout for his second save in as many days.
