UC Davis' Nate Pistacchio and UC Irvine's Jane Chin picked up medalist honors and led their respective teams at a handful events during the month of October to earn Big West Golfer of the Month honors.
Pistacchio claimed UC Davis' third medalist honor in five tournaments this fall when he tied for first with a 6-under 210 at The Prestige at PGA WEST at the Greg Norman Golf Course, leading the Aggie men's golf team to an impressive runner-up finish at the high-powered tournament. Pistacchio was either first or tied for first after each of the first two rounds at The Prestige and broke par for each of the three rounds (68-71-71). His first career collegiate win was his second top 10 finish in October, after tying for eighth at the Fightin' Irish Gridiron Classic with a three-round score of 216.
Chin won all three tournaments in the month of October capturing the Coast BMW Intercollegiate, Price's "Give ‘Em Five" Invitational and Kent Youel Invitational. She became the only UC Irvine golfer to win three consecutive tournaments in the program's history. Chin rewrote the record book at the Kent Youel Invitational, firing a 66 on the second round which matches teammate Patty Chawalitmetha for the lowest score in school history. At the same event, she registered the school record for 36-holes (134) and 54-holes (203). Chin is currently ranked fifth nationally in the Golfweek individual rankings and third in the Golfstat Cup standings, while also leading the Anteaters to a team ranking of 26th in the Oct. 22 edition of the Golfweek rankings.
