Standout performances by Chris Jones and Sean Urena lifted nationally-ranked Cal State Fullerton to a series win over No. 6 Rice and earned them Big West Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, for the week ending March 4.

In the four-game lineup against San Diego State and No. 6 Rice, Chris Jones hit .429 to guided the Titans to a 3-1 week. The San Clemente, Calif., native blasted six hits and collected a team-high six RBI, helping the Titans record their 16th-consecutive series win. The first of Jones' three doubles capped a six-run first inning that gave CSF its first victory over the Owls. Later in the outing he doubled and singled to score two runs for a perfect 3-for-3 day. His third double of the week was the game-winning hit on Sunday afternoon, driving a pair of runs in the second inning off All-American Joe Savery. The sophomore right fielder posted a .529 on-base percentage and a .643 slugging percentage for the week.

On Sunday afternoon, freshman Sean Urena pitched his first-career complete game, one-hitting No. 6 Rice as Cal State Fullerton beat the Owls 6-1 in the series finale. He carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but was broken up with a Jared Gayhart one-out triple. The right-hander from Rialto, Calif., retired 13 of the first 15 hitters he faced and then 14 of the last 15 after Gayhart’s lone hit. Urena, who improves to 3-0 on the season, struck out a career-high six on 110 pitches and held the Owls to a .036 batting average.

Cal State Fullerton travels to Greensboro, N.C., to take on East Carolina in a three game series beginning on Friday, March 9. Last season the Titans swept the Pirates in a three-game outing at Goodwin Field.
