Cal State Fullerton sweeps Big West Player and Pitcher of the Week honors after Justin Klipp and Clark Hardman guided the Titans to a series win over No. 18 Long Beach State. This marks the third pitching honor and second player award of the season for Cal State Fullerton.
Klipp picked up two Titan victories to lead them to a series win (2-1) over No. 18 Long Beach State. The Bell Canyon, Calif., native did not surrender a run in seven innings pitched and struck out six batters. On Friday, Klipp tossed 3.1 near perfect innings, walking just one batter and striking out three, after relieving Wes Roemer. Two days later he was equally effective, throwing 3.2 innings and surrendering just two hits to earn the win after CSF rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth. On the weekend, Klipp struck out six and held the 49ers to just a .091 batting average.
Hardman picked up two hits in each of the Titan's three games against No. 18 Long Beach State last weekend, with his last hit being the game and series-winner. While his six hits tied for the team lead, his four RBI paced the Titan squad. In Friday's matchup, the Trabuco Canyon, Calif., native reached base on a single and eventually rounded the bases to score the game-winning run. On Sunday, the Titans posted their first come-from-behind win of the season when they rallied with two outs to collect for runs. The junior centerfielder delivered the game-winning run with a two-out bases-loaded single that gave Cal State Fullerton the series win over Long Beach State.
The Titans open Big West Conference play this week when they travel to Cal State Northridge for a three-game series. Game times are 3:00, 1:00 and 1:00 p.m.
