UCI's Chelsea Nagata finished first in all three of her events at the Big West Shootout last weekend.
UC Irvine Men, UC Santa Barbara Women Take Home 2007 Swimming & Diving Titles: The UC Irvine men and UC Santa Barbara women claimed the team championships at the 2007 Big West Swimming & Diving Championships. It was the 10th title for the Gauchos' women's contingent, while the Anteater men won the crown for the first time in school history. The four-day event was held at the Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif.

UCI won the men's title with 820.5 points, easily outdistancing the second place UC Santa Barbara Gauchos who collected 727.5 tallies. Third place belonged to UC Davis with 660.0 points with Pacific coming in fourth with 596.0 points. Cal Poly (315.0) and Cal State Northridge (276.0) wrapped up the men's standings.

UC Santa Barbara took the women's crown with 844.5 points, with Pacific (678.0) and UC Irvine (631.0) coming in second and third, respectively. UC Davis checked in at fourth with 558.0 points, while Cal State Northridge (328.0) and Cal Poly (323.5) round out the women’s final standings.

Cary, Nagata Earn All-America Accolades: In the final day of the 2007 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at the University Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn., UC Santa Barbara's senior Pat Cary walked away with All-America accolades after finishing eighth in the 200 fly with a time of 1:44.55. Earlier in the day, Cary broke a school record in the prelims with a 1:44.15 mark.

With a time of 53.11 in the 100 butterfly, UC Irvine's Chelsea Nagata earned All-America accolades at the 2007 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. Nagata also swam a UCI record time of 52.73 to finish fourth in the 100 fly prelims. The Hawaii native also finished 24th in the 100 back with a UCI record time of 54.55. Both times were the fastest Big West marks of the season.

Three Teams Place At NCAAs: The 25th place team finish is the second highest finish for the Anteaters at the NCAA Division I Championships with a 23rd place finish in 1990. UC Irvine finished with more points at the Championships than any other mid-major school in the country. The UC Irvine's women’s squad also placed in the team standings, finishing in 33rd place. Also ranking 33rd were the UC Santa Barbara men's program.

Anteaters Receive National Recognition: The UC Irvine men's program concluded the 2006-07 season ranked 13th in the collegeswimming.com mid-major poll. The Anteaters spent most of the year on the elite list, ranking as high as 10th.
