A collection of first place finishes and record-breaking performances for both Eddie Erazo and Lyndsay DePaul earned them the distinct honor of receiving the first Big West Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week honors of the season.
Competing in UC Irvine's home meet, Lincoln Aquatics Shootout, Erazo won both the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke in a field that included No. 19 Hawaii and BYU. Erazo’s time of 1:47.04 in the 200 back broke his own Anteater record and is a NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time.
On the women's side, 2006-07 Big West Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Year Lyndsay DePaul won five events in last weekend's competition. She earned NCAA ‘B’ times in the 200 fly (1;59.41), the 500 free and the 1650 free. Her time of 4:52.33 in the 500 free and the 16:45.28 in the 1650 free set new UC Irvine records.
Both athletes return to action this week when they travel to Tucson, Ariz., for a dual matchup with the Arizona Wildcats.
