UC Santa Barbara's Robbie Blauer and Cal State Fullerton's Dustin Miller earned Big West Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week, for the week ending May 21. This is the first honor of the season for both athletes.
In the weekend series with UC Davis, Blauer (Huntington Beach, Calif.) extended his hitting streak to 10 after going 7-for-10. For the week he connected for 9-for-14 and posted a .643 batting average, which included eight runs scored, four RBI, two doubles and his second home run of the season. In Saturday’s game, the junior first baseman was perfect at the plate, scoring four runs and driving in two more to help give the Gauchos a 14-6 win over the Aggies.
Miller pitched a complete-game shutout on Sunday against Cal Poly, earning him his 10th win of the season. The Diamond Bar, Calif., native surrendered just five hits while striking out eight Mustangs, facing just five hitters over the minimum. He held the Mustangs to a .167 average in the team’s shortest game of the season at two hours, twenty minutes. His last complete game pitched dates back to April 4, 2003 against Pacific.
