With impressive performances in the first week of conference play, Long Beach State's Evan Longoria and Cal State Fullerton's Wes Roemer earned Big West Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, for the week ending April 2. This is the second honor of the year for both athletes. Longoria claimed the weekly prize on Feb. 20, while the Titan pitcher received pitcher of the week status on March 13.

Longoria, a native of Downey, Calif., went 5-for-11 (.455) in the three-game series against UC Irvine. He blasted a two-run home run on Friday and Saturday and drove in another run on Sunday to record five RBI for the series. The junior third baseman scored five runs and flirted with the cycle on Saturday, missing it by a triple. On Sunday, Longoria hit a sac fly in the first and his single in the sixth was part of a two-run inning, leading to the eventual 3-2 win.

Hailing from Glendora, Calif, Roemer tied a career-high 12 strikeouts over eight innings of work and surrendered just one run and held Cal State Northridge to just four hits. The 2-1 win over the Matadors marks his sixth win without a loss. The right-handed pitcher lowered his ERA to 1.71 and with his one walk against CSUN, Roemer has a 70:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
