UC Riverside sophomore Jennifer Bermingham (Long Beach, CA/Millikan HS) and UC Irvine freshman John Chin (Temecula, CA/Temecula Valley HS) earned the conference's November golf honors after stellar performances at their only tournament competition this month.
Bermingham was selected Big West Women's Golfer of the Month after capturing the individual championship of the Firestone Grill-Cal Poly Invitational in Arroyo Grande, Calif. on November 6-7. It was the second tournament title of Bermingham's young career, as she carded a one-under-par total of 145 over two rounds. Bermingham moved up from third to first with an even-par 73 in the final round after posting five birdies and one eagle on Tuesday.
Bermingham helped the Highlanders finish a season-high third in the 19-team tournament, which featured a field of 96 golfers. She won the Cal Poly event by five strokes and had a total of 12 birdies over the two rounds.
Chin emerged with the best performance of a UCI golfer in all four fall tournaments, firing a 10-under-par total of 206 to finish third at the Food4Less Pacific Invitational that lasted November 6-8. The performance earned him Big West Men's Golfer of the Month honors. He had rounds of 67 and 68 to begin the tournament and concluded with a third round 71.
Chin placed ahead of all 24 Big West golfers who participated and helped the Anteaters to a fourth place team finish. UC Santa Barbara, Cal State Northridge and UC Riverside were the other competing teams from the Big West.
The fall season officially concluded with the Cal Poly and Pacific Invitationals. The spring season begins in late January.
