Salotti, Schroer and Massetti Wrap Up 2005 with Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Nick Salotti, UC Riverside (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert HS)

Nick Salotti bounced back from a serious slump to drive in seven runs during the Highlanders’ series win over No. 1 Cal State Fullerton. In Saturday’s win, the 6-2 sophomore first baseman knocked a two-run single to start a winning rally in which he also doubled in the tying run in the bottom of the ninth. On Sunday, he bettered that performance with a three-run home run and doubled in another insurance run, finishing off the week with a .400 batting average and.800 slugging percentage.

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Luke Massetti, Pacific (Modesto, Calif./Johansen HS)

Luke Massetti dealt out 102 pitches for his second consecutive complete-game effort. On Friday against UC Davis, the 6-4 junior right-hander faced just 30 batters and allowed three hits, while striking out three on the way to the shutout victory. The complete-game shutout win was Pacific’s first since March 2004.

CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Steve Schroer, UC Irvine (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente HS)

Steve Schroer closed out his Anteater career with his first career complete game. The 6-2 senior righty had never pitched more than seven innings until Saturday's 11-0 UC Irvine win over No. 29 Cal Poly. Schroer struck out seven and allowed just three hits, facing four over the minimum to even the series with the Mustangs.
