PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Justin Baum, Pacific (La Mesa, Calif./Grossmont HS)
Justin Baum was a monster at the plate in the Tigers’ three wins last weekend. The 6-0 freshman first baseman popped four home runs, two doubles and a triple and scored nine times while collecting 11 RBI in four games. Baum ended the four-game stint batting .812 with an on-base percentage of .850 by drawing a walk and being dosed three times. His fourth home run of the weekend put him in a tie for the 11-year-old school record for home runs in a season with 15.
CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Jimmy Shull, Cal Poly (Downey, Calif./Warren HS)
Jimmy Shull posted an impressive outing for the Mustangs in a 4-1 road victory over No. 12-ranked Long Beach Stateon Saturday. The 6-2 senior righty tossed a complete game, striking out five while allowing just one run on four hits. In his last five starts, Shull is 5-0 with a 1.89 ERA, including complete-game victories over two nationally ranked teams.
CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Cesar Ramos, Long Beach State (Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho HS)
Cesar Ramos outdueled Cal Poly ace Garrett Olson in a 4-1 49er victory over the No. 19-ranked Mustangs. The 6-2 junior lefty tossed 8.2 innings with no walks and six strikeouts. Ramos carried a five-hit shutout through eight innings, retiring seven consecutive batters heading into the ninth. Ramos collected his 10th victory on the season in the effort.
