PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sergio Pedroza, Cal State Fullerton (Covina, Calif./Northview HS)
Pedroza batted a blazing .692 for the Titans last week, beginning with a 3-for-5 effort and two RBI in a loss to LMU. The junior right fielder was walked five times in the opening game of CSF's series sweep of Cal State Northridge, and then hit .750 in the next two games. One of those knocks in the 6-for-8 performance was his 10th home run, which bumped his RBI tally for the week to seven. Pedroza finished the week with a .778 on-base percentage and five runs scored.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jared Hughes, Long Beach State (Laguna Beach, Calif./Santa Margarita HS)
Hughes had a career day for Long Beach State to clinch the weekend series win over UC Irvine. The sophomore right-hander went the distance, walked no one, allowed just two hits and fanned a career-high 10 batters in the 10-0 victory. Eight of those strikeouts came in the final five innings, including a seventh-inning effort that took down the Anteaters looking.
