CSF's Suzuki and LBSU's Weaver Earn Big West Baseball Weekly Honors

Cal State Fullerton junior catcher Kurt Suzuki (Wailuku, Hawaii) was named Big West Player of the Week. The Titan battery helped the team to its first series win of the season, a three-game sweep against UNLV. In the first game of the series, he drove in the tying run in the ninth inning sending the game into extra innings. In the series finale, Suzuki had a career-high four hits, all coming cosecutively. For the week, he batted .667 (6-for-9) with five runs scored and five RBI.

Long Beach State junior right-hander Jered Weaver (Simi Valley, Calif.) was named Big West Pitcher of the Week. The 49er ace tossed seven shutout innings in the season opener against California. Weaver picked up his first win, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out six. He retired the first nine batters he faced and recorded a key strikeout in the seventh inning with a runner on third base to preserve the 1-0 lead at the time.
