Cal State Fullerton junior catcher Kurt Suzuki (Maui, Hawaii) was named Big West Player of the Week. Suzuki helped the Titans to their first road series win of the season, over Houston, batting .500 (6-for-12) with five runs scored and five RBI. In the second game of the series, he went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI, including a double.
UC Irvine junior right-hander Brett Smith (La Habra, Calif.) and Pacific junior righty Alex Graham (Fair Oaks, Calif.) were named Big West co-Pitchers of the Week. The Anteater hurler halted an Arizona offense that was averaging nine runs a game to just one run on six hits over eight innings. Smith struck out seven and walked none en route to his second win of the season. Graham pitched a complete-game shutout against UCLA, allowing just two hits while striking out a career-high seven. The Tiger pitcher was perfect through the first 6.2 innings before allowing back-to-back singles. He retired the next seven batters to close out the game.
