UC Irvine junior Jay Choe (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS) was the only Big West male golfer to earn a top-three finish at October tournaments, earning him Big West Male Golf Player of the Month honors. Choe had his best finish of collegiate competition at the Club Glove Intercollegiate on Oct. 11-12 in Camarillo, Calif., when he finished tied for second place with a 2-under 214 (72-68-74) and was just two shots out of first place.
Long Beach State freshman Kay Hoey (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga HS) led the 49ers for the second time in October and fourth time this season when she finished tied for fourth with a 2-over 146 (72-74) at the rain-shortened Lady Aztec Fall Invitational in Chula Vista, Calif. She also was the 49ers’ top golfer earlier that month with a fifth-place finish at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash.
