UC Irvine freshman swimmer Randall Tom (Wailiku, Hawai’i/Seabury Hall HS) has been awarded this week’s Big West Male Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week after swimming to the Anteaters’ third-fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly at the Big West Shootout, placing second overall in the race with a time of 49.76 seconds. His first-place finish in the 50 freestyle (20.94) was the ninth fastest time in school history. Tom was also a member of UC Irvine’s second-place 200 medley relay, which clocked the second-fastest time in Anteater history at last week’s Big West Shootout.

At her first collegiate meet, UC Irvine freshman diver Jackie Jones (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) notched a pair of first-place finishes at the Big West Shootout and earned herself the honor of this week’s Big West Female Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week. Her score of 292.20 on the 3-meter board qualified her for NCAA Regional Diving. Her score was the second highest 3-meter dual meet score in UC Irvine history. Jones also took first on the 1-meter board with a score of 244.15. She wound up with three first-place finishes at the Shootout to help the Anteaters to a third-place finish at the meet.
