UC Irvine senior Vinnie Poncino (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was named Big West Male Golf Athlete of the Month. Poncino finished second in each of the tournaments he competed in for the month of September, the Pacific Invitational and the Northwest Collegiate. At Pacific he finished in a tie for second with a final score of 205. He shot a 67 and 68 first two rounds, respectivley, both of which were bogey-free. At the Northwest Collegiate Poncino finished 11 under par, including a 65 score on his first round, which helped the UC Irvine squad win the tournament. For the season he is averaging 68.83 per round.

Cal State Nortridge junior Emma Wahlgren (Lidingo, Sweden) was named Big West Female Athlete of the Month. Wahlgren finished in second place at the Lady Vandal Fall Invitational with a final score of 226 (+10). The Matador golfer was in fifth-place after the first two rounds but shot a final round 76 to overtake three players. Wahlgren helped Northridge to a second-place finish in the its first tournament of the season.
