Cal Poly, winners of the 2026 Big West Baseball Championship, and regular-season co-champion UC Santa Barbara are set to trek on their roads to Omaha by receiving bids into the 2026 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, as announced on Memorial Day morning Monday live on ESPN. It is the third year in a row that The Big West has put multiple teams into the national tournament.
Cal Poly (36-22) earned The Big West’s automatic bid into the national bracket by winning the 2026 Big West Baseball Championship. The Mustangs are making their fifth appearance, second in a row, in the NCAA Championship (2009, 2013, 2014, 2025) in program history. Cal Poly will open the road to Omaha against Virginia Tech in Los Angeles. The Hokies earned an at-large bid, going 30-24 overall, 15-15 in ACC play, and have a No. 42 RPI ranking. The game will be played on Friday, May 29 at 5 p.m. PT and broadcasted on ESPN+.
The Los Angeles regional also features host UCLA (51-6) and Saint Mary’s (34-25). The Bruins are the No. 1 overall seed and won the Big Ten Tournament to earn an automatic spot in the field. The Gaels are also an automatic qualifier after winning the West Coast Conference Tournament over the weekend.
UC Santa Barbara received an at-large bid with a 38-18 overall record, winning a share of the league’s regular-season title with a 22-8 conference mark, and sporting an RPI ranking of 38. The Gauchos are making their 15th overall showing in the NCAA Tournament and fifth in the last seven iterations of the championship (1972, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1996, 2001, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2024). The Gauchos are traveling to Austin, Texas and will start the regional by playing Tarleton State (37-19). The Texans are an automatic qualifier out of the WAC. The game will be played on Friday, May 29 at 3 p.m. PT and broadcasted on ESPN+.
Texas (40-13), the host of the regional, are the No. 6 seed and are an at-large qualifier. The Longhorns finished second in the SEC regular season with a 19-10 league record and have an RPI ranking of 5. Holy Cross (25-28) is the fourth team in the Austin regional. The Crusaders won the Patriot League Tournament to punch their ticket.
