SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- No. 6 seed UC San Diego defeated the No. 7 seed UC Riverside 4-0 at Barnes Tennis Center in the first round of the 2026 Men's Tennis Championship. The Tritons won two of the three doubles matches, securing the doubles point, and swept the three completed singles matches. UCSD had victories in the No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 spots, while the remaining singles matches did not finish. The Tritons will advance to play No. 3 seed Cal Poly in the second round on Thursday, April 23 at 10 a.m. PT.
In doubles play, the Tritons secured victories in two matches. Andrew Beceiro and Prathinav Chunduru (UCSD) defeated Andrew Lavine and Owen Pearson (UCR) 6-1. Yaron Guberman and Oliver Worth (UCSD) overcame Michael Chang and Ivaylo Simeonov (UCR) 6-4. The match between Lucas Ibarrondo Suarez and Lucas Mszyca (UCR) against Abhinav Chunduru and Trevor Nguyen (UCSD) was left unfinished with UCSD leading 6-5.
In singles competition, Abhinav Chunduru (UCSD) defeated Michael Chang (UCR) in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. Yaron Guberman (UCSD) also won in straight sets against Lucas Mszyca (UCR), 6-2, 6-0. Prathinav Chunduru (UCSD) triumphed over Andrew Lavine (UCR) in a tight contest, 6-2, 7-6 (9-7).
