  • UC Irvine graduate student Hiroki Sakagawa won two singles matches and one doubles match to earn The Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Week honor. It is Sakagawa's fourth career weekly honor from the conference, having won it thrice earlier this season.
  • In Friday's 4-1 team victory against Cal Poly, the graduate student, alongside teammate Tal Goodman, defeated Sean Ferguson and Raz Haviv in No. 2 doubles 6-2 to help UC Irvine secure the doubles point. Sakagawa then defeated Jovan Lubbe, 7-6(7), 6-1, at the top of the lineup to clinch the team win.
  • Sakagawa came back two days later to upset No. 87 Lucca Liu of UC Santa Barbara, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5, on Sunday. It was the Chiba, Japan native's second ranked victory of the season.
  • UC Irvine is 11-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Sakagawa owns a team-best 11-3 singles record, all at the top of the lineup.
