Fourteen Selected from The Big West in Day Two of 2025 MLB First-Year Player Draft

All-Time Big West MLB Draft Selections

The Big West had its 14 representatives selected Monday in the 2025 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft that consisted of 17 rounds from four through 20. The first three rounds of the draft took place on Sunday. Combined with UC Santa Barbara’s Tyler Bremner getting selected No. 2 overall on day one, The Big West had 15 draft selections this year.
 
UC Irvine had a whopping six selections: right-handed pitcher Riley Kelly, shortstop Colin Yeaman, outfielder Jacob McCombs, first baseman Anthony Martinez, right-handed pitcher Max Martin and outfielder Chase Call.

Hawai’i had three with outfielder Matthew Miura, two-way player Itsuki Takemoto and right-handed pitcher Freddy Rodriguez.  
 
Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara had two apiece with first baseman Zach Daudet and left-handed pitcher Luke Kovach for the Mustangs and right-handed pitchers Frank Camarillo and Reed Moring for the Gauchos. UC San Diego had one selection in Matthew Dalquist.
 
Kelly was the first draftee from The Big West on the day, selected with the 107th pick in the third round by the Colorado Rockies. The UCI righty was an All-Big West Second Team performer, going 4-1 with a 3.78 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 66.2 innings of work on the mound.
 
Yeaman’s name was called with the 124th pick in the fourth round by the Baltimore Orioles. The Anteater shortstop was an All-Big West First Team selection and the Big West Field Player of the Year, slashing .336/.447/.591 with 13 home runs, 83 hits, 52 runs and 56 RBI, this past season.
 
Miura was the sixth-round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals at 180th overall. The two-time All-Big West honoree slashed .338/.454/.460 with 72 hits, 46 walks, 53 runs, 35 RBI and 18 stolen bases this past year.
 
McCombs went 209th overall in the seventh round to the Minnesota Twins. The UC Irvine outfielder held a .352/.446/.635 slash line with 81 hits, 13 home runs, 61 runs and 54 RBI en route to an All-Big West First Team selection.
 
Martinez got tabbed as a Cleveland Guardian with the 252nd pick in the 8th round. The three-time All-Big West honoree hit above .315 in all three seasons at UC Irvine and collected 25 home runs and 192 total RBI.
 
The Houston Astros selected Daudet with the 306th pick in the 10th round. The Mustang first baseman slashed .367/.484/.612 with 54 hits, 44 runs, 25 walks and 22 RBI and was a member of the 2025 All-Big West First Team.
 
Martin was picked by the Kansas City Royals with the 308th pick in the 10th round. The UCI closer was an All-Big West Second Team performer this past season with 14 saves, a 3.29 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.
 
Camarillo went in the 13th round, 403rd overall, to the New York Mets.
 
Moring got the call by the Minnesota Twins  in the 15th round. The Gaucho righty had a 2.55 ERA this past season.
 
The Houston Astros tabbed Call with the 486th pick in the 16th round. The UCI outfielder slashed .315/.472/.582 with 58 hits, 11 home runs, 58 runs and 49 RBI for an All-Big West Second Team nod in 2025.

The Minnesota Twins called Dalquist's name in the 18th round with the 539th pick. The Triton righty had a 4.43 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 81.1 innings for All-Big West Second Team honors. 
 
The A’s selected Takemoto in the 19th round, 560th overall. Takemoto was drafted as a pitcher but was a two-way player at Hawai’i with 21 RBI in the batter’s box and 67.1 innings and 57 strikeouts on the mound to earn an All-Big West First Team nod this past season.
 
Kovach’s name was called by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 19th round, 562nd overall.
 
With the 601st pick in the 20th round, the Chicago Cubs selected Rodriguez. The Rainbow Warrior reliever went 7-2 with a 3.10 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 52.1 innings in 2025.

Former Long Beach State pitcher Myles Patton was selected in the seventh round, 208th overall. Patton was a two-year Dirtbag before transferring to Texas A&M.
