UC Irvine Wraps Season at UCLA Regional Final

LOS ANGELES  -- UC Irvine’s season came to an end with an 8-5 loss to No. 15 seed and host UCLA in the Los Angeles Regional of the 2025 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, Sunday at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
 
The Anteaters conclude their 2025 campaign with a 43-17 overall record. UC Irvine made the NCAA postseason for a second consecutive season and third time in five years. It is the third 40+ win season under the tenure of seventh-year head coach Ben Orloff. The Bruins improve to 45-17 and advance to Super Regionals.
 
Third baseman James Castagnola went 2-for-5 with one RBI. Designated hitter Alfonso Reyes and first baseman Anthony Martinez each went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.
 
UCLA raced out to an 8-0 advantage with one run in the first, two runs in the third and four runs in the fifth.
 
UC Irvine started to chip away at the Bruin lead with two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings and one run in the sixth. Castagnola and Reyes batted in a run in the fourth, Martinez hit a 2-RBI double in the fifth and Reyes came back in the sixth to hit a solo home run.
 
The Anteaters were shutout in the final three innings as UCLA prevailed and advanced to the super regional round.
