Top-seeded and defending conference champion Hawai'i bested No. 2 Long Beach State 8-6 in the 2025 Big West Championship Final at the Anteater Aquatics Complex in Irvine, Calif.
This is the sixth Big West Championship for the Rainbow Wahine in program history after clinching the title back-to-back from 2023-24.
The Rainbow Wahine secured an early lead by scoring four goals in the first quarter. The Beach managed a late rally with four goals in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. UH capitalized on two penalty shots, contributing significantly to their victory, while LBSU struggled with accuracy, netting only 6 of their 35 shots.
Hawai'i opened the scoring early in the first period with a goal by Roni Perlman at 6:56. Long Beach State responded quickly with an equalizer from Jamie Oberman, assisted by Chiara Amoroso, at 6:24. UH then went on a four-goal streak, including goals by Alia Burlock and Ema Vernoux, ending the first period with a 4-1 lead. The second period saw the Rainbow Wahine extend their lead with goals from Camille Radosavljevic, Jordan Wedderburn, and Silvanne Slot, giving them a 7-2 advantage by the end of the period.
In the fourth period of play the Beach attempted a comeback with goals from Martina Cardona and Elisa Portillo, narrowing the score to 8-6 with 44 seconds left. Despite their efforts, UH secured the victory with a final goal by Vernoux at 1:07 in the fourth period, bringing the final score to 8-6 in favor of Hawai'i.
UH showcased strong performances from several key players. Vernoux led the team with two goals and added an assist, highlighting her offensive capabilities. Bernadette Doyle contributed significantly recording two assists in the match. Radosavljevic was a defensive standout with two steals and two blocks, while also scoring a goal. In goal, Daisy Logtens made a remarkable 14 saves, earning 2025 Big West Championship MVP recognition.
Cardona and Portillo are key players for LBSU. Cardona scored two goals and won four sprints, making her a significant contributor on both offense and defense. Portillo also netted two goals and added three steals, demonstrating her ability to impact the game on both ends. Rita Gurri Capel provided strong playmaking with two assists and contributed one goal. In goal, Chelsea Oliver recorded five saves, anchoring the defense effectively.
