At Least Thirteen Former Big West Players on 2025 MLB Opening Day Rosters

No less than twelve former Big West baseball players suited up for Opening Day of the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) season.

Cal State Fullerton led all Big West programs with four players on Opening Day rosters. Big West players are spread out over 13 MLB clubs, with the Cleveland Guardians housing two former players on their rosters.

Additional players are currently key reserves, prospects or on the injured list of clubs and may join the active roster in the near future. Those include Rob Brantly (UC Riverside/Miami Marlins), J.D. Davis (Cal State Fullerton/Los Angeles Angels), Darius Vines (Cal State Bakersfield/Atlanta Braves), Jeff McNeil (Long Beach State/New York Mets), Shane Bieber (UC Santa Barbara/Cleveland Guardians), Brooks Lee (Cal Poly/Minnesota Twins) and Drew Thorpe (Cal Poly/Chicago White Sox).

Big West alums are also scattered throught MLB coaching staffs and front offices, but no two are bigger than managers Brandon Hyde (Long Beach State/Baltimore Orioles) and Mark Kotsay (Cal State Fullerton/Oakland A's).
