Hawai`i claimed the 2024 Big West Women’s Water Polo Championship after being runners-up in the previous two years. The top-seeded Rainbow Wahine defeated No. 3 seed Long Beach State by a final score of 9-5 in the title game at Schaal Aquatics Center on the campus of UC Davis to claim the program’s fifth conference championship and first since 2021.
The 2025 event promises to be a competitive affair. Only four points separated UC Irvine, Hawai`i and Long Beach State in the preseason poll with the host Anteaters predicted to lead the conference. The Big West currently has seven teams in the nation’s Top 25, represented by Hawai'i at No. 3 for the fourth straight week, with Long Beach State at No. 6 and UC Irvine in eighth to highlight the listings.
Currently, UH and UCI are an undefeated 3-0 in league action with LBSU right behind at 3-1. The matchup between the Anteaters and the Rainbow Wahine comes in the final week of the regular season, on April 15 at the Anteater Aquatics Complex in the last contest for both sides before the 2025 Big West Women's Water Polo Championship commences.
This marks the third time UC Irvine has played host to the Championship event, also welcoming teams to the pool in 2013 and '18.
