Jack Collins slashed .375/.389/1.000 with six hits, two home runs, four runs and eight RBI, leading Cal Poly to a 4-0 week to win The Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week award. It is Collins' first career weekly honor from the conference. The catcher started the week with a 2-for-3 performance with a double, two runs and five RBI in a 18-4 win at San Jose State, Tuesday. Collins hit a two-run home run in a 3-1 triumph in the series opener at Long Beach State, Friday. In a 9-1 victory on Saturday, the junior doubled three times, one shy of the school Division I record, and had one run and one RBI. Cal Poly is 13-6 overall and 6-0 in conference play, its best start in Big West play since joining the league in 1997. Collins is batting .377 and ranks in the top five in the league in multiple categories including fourth in slugging (.727), fifth in hits (29), second in RBI (27), and is the leader for doubles (12). Hawai'i pitcher Cooper Walls threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball against UC Santa Barbara to earn The Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week award. It is Walls' first career weekly honor from the league. In Sunday's rubber match against the 15th-ranked Gauchos, the righty tossed 7.0 innings, allowing no runs on four hits and two walks and three strikeouts as Hawai'i downed UCSB 1-0 to win the game and take the series. Hawai'i is 14-5 overall on the season, 3-3 in Big West play. Walls has a 2.49 ERA in 21.2 innings of work. In conference play, the freshman has not allowed a run through 11.0 innings.
